Talente OÖ bietet alle 2 Jahre eine 2-wöchige Sprach- und Erlebnisreise, genannt "English to go", für besonders begabte und interessierte Schüler*innen an. Diesen Sommer hat aus dem BORG Ried Leonie Wagner (7A) teilgenommen. Erfahrungsbericht:
I have always dreamed of travelling the world one day and in the year 2024 my wish was partially granted, and I could eventually increase the map of where I have been to. Let me introduce myself and give you some insights on my trip.
I am Leonie Wagner, a pupil of BORG in Ried im Innkreis, and half a year ago I applied for a project called “English to go” after a recommendation from my English teacher. Then in January when the outcome was announced I was thrilled to be one of the chosen participants. Time flew by and I would finally visit England, a country I had actually never been to before. That meant experiencing British culture, traditions and eating habits. So, here is a summary to get a glimpse of my journey:
First of all, I must mention that my intentions were to gain sufficient knowledge about British history, improve my English concerning pronunciation, spelling and expand my vocabulary. I also wanted to view the beauty of the country with the friends I would make there. Depending on ages, we were split into groups and took daily lessons accompanied by a nice community of teachers and a native speaker. We also encountered locals when conducting interviews in Lanhydrock and St. Michaels Mount and in districts like St. Ives and Oxford. I need to emphasize that the English people were incredibly forthcoming and polite. Furthermore, in our regular lessons and places like the Roman Baths we discovered facts of historical concern. Moreover, I could enjoy the time with great people and my friends that I still meet up with sometimes.
As there are always merits and highlights, I would like to point out some. Regarding food, I liked Cornish Shortbread and Fish ‘n’ Chips best. My favourite places were Mousehole, Bath and Land’s End. I enjoyed the sights and the cosiness there a lot, but if I had to choose one, it would be Land’s End. I was really delighted by the landscape and the festival that took place there. It was about how Cornwall got its name and there were mesmerizing fireworks. Also, for me, surfing in St. Ives was unbelievingly astonishing and I even accomplished standing on the board. Because of the trip I now know that England is not just about the famous red buses, telephone boxes and subway signs, as I had pictured it before. It is about a wonderful but still slightly cool sea, pretty landscapes and pleasant inhabitants. Also, can you imagine palm trees in England? Yes, there are some due to the climate being influenced by the Gulf Stream.
Last but not least, I’d like to add that I am so grateful for the opportunity to take part in the project as I really made everlasting experiences and several acquaintances as well as friendships. So, I would like to thank the contributors of “English to go” for their commitment to make numerous dreams come true, including mine.
